Hello, I’m Olive 🫒

I’ve spent a decade helping students to build lifelong language skills.

My tutoring career started in Beijing (2016) where I attended Tsinghua University as a CIS scholarship winner; what started as helping my peers with their academic writing led to an obsession with teaching language, honing a creative, highly empathetic, and playful teaching style. I returned to the UK, graduated with 1st Class BA Hons in French, Chinese and Business, and took a one way flight straight back to China (this time Shanghai), where I worked as a Tutor specialising in 7+, 11+, 13+, and all things English. Of my 20 students that year, 95% secured their first choice of UK/US independent school. Wanting to deepen my theoretical insight, I undertook a Master’s degree in Education at the University of Cambridge where my thesis on bilingual poetry was published in C-ERJ. It was time to bounce again. I then spent a year in Dubai where I worked as a Humanities Tutor, supporting students aged between 5-18 with English and Academic Skills within each of the French, British and American curricula. Building from this, I returned to the UK in 2021 and set up my own tutoring agency, Olea Education, which specialised in supporting Chinese students with bespoke English tutoring and learning experiences. A trilingial speaker of English, French and Mandarin Chinese, my philosophy is that a brilliant Language Mentor can unlock a deep love of lifelong learning, elicit fabulous character that stands one apart from the crowd, and cultivates “soft” skills that trickle into negociation, self-expression, and resilience – facets that the next generation of learners will need (far) more than the former.

• Book an initial 15-minute call with me to discuss your situation, needs, and learning goals.

• Undertake the 3-hour English Assessment comprised of a written (2.5 hours) and oral (0.5 hours) overview. You will receive a 5-page report and bespoke learning plan within 24 hours. This is absorbed into the first term’s tuition fee.

• Mentorship sessions are scheduled termly, and undertaken weekly at a frequency appropriate for the needs of the student. Detailed feedback is produced after each session.

How to read, take notes, revise, and prepare for exams. Tailored to how your child actually thinks and not a generic one-size system.

Building the belief that they can figure things out for themselves. This is often the most transformative, and the most lasting part of my work.

Communication & Written Expression

Writing clearly, arguing a point, structuring an essay or personal statement. Developing a voice in
English that feels like theirs.

Language & Cultural Fluency.

Not just correct English, but comfortable, natural, expressive English in class discussions, essays, and social settings.
